Step inside the house.
A woman grapples with her sexual identity following the ending of a relationship as a haunted miniature house comes back into her life.
Based on a very true story of myself. Staring down my 40th birthday, I left a 10-year heterosexual relationship and had early memories of playing with a miniature house and knowing that I was attracted to women and grieving the time that I didn't spend fully being myself.
We deeply learn about ourselves when we’re playing pretend. The roles that have been constructed for us and the roles we want to tear down and make our own are all evident in play. Every child has a moment where they accidentally paint the window. It’s a turning point where they’re stepping into who they are. My only hope is that they find their way back to it and in turn back to themselves.
The rights of the LGBTQIA+ community are getting stripped daily, which is why now is the critical time that this film gets made. During times of uncertainty, when it feels like a sense of control is withering, it is important for storytelling that supports individuals and champions the basic nuances of love and the basic right to live authentically as yourself.
If you love haunting scripts that live in the world of magical realism, this short film is for you. My background in writing and directing for the stage has led to 18 years of crafting stories on themes of mental health awareness. I work in production management for Halloween Horror Nights, bringing one of the largest horror events to life year round. I'm excited for you to join us on our next haunted journey.
